The .303 No. 4 Mk I and Mk I* rifles were iconic WWII era Lee-Enfield bolt-action rifles predominantly used by British and Commonwealth forces. Manufactured starting in 1941, these rifles were chiefly produced in British factories such as R.O.F. Fazakerley, Maltby, and B.S.A. Shirley (marked as M47C), with Britain exclusively producing the Mk I model. Through the Lend-Lease initiative, the U.S. also contributed to the production, marking their rifles with “US PROPERTY” and including a “C” in the serial numbers. Components often had a squared “S” marking to signify their origin. Canadian production, headed by Long Branch, included both Mk I and Mk I* models, marked with an “L” to indicate their manufacture. The combined manufacturing efforts from Britain, the U.S., and Canada ensured wide availability and sustained use of these rifles during WWII, each with distinct national manufacturing markers and unique characteristics.
