The American Bulldog First Model, also branded as Lion, Old Hickory, Navy Favorite, and Ajax Army, is a late 19th-century double-action revolver produced from 1882 to 1884, exemplifying superior American craftsmanship. Available in multiple calibers, including .22 and .32 rimfire for small and medium frames, and .38 rimfire as well as .44 Webley and .44 Bulldog for extra-large frames, this versatile firearm featured a saw handle-shaped grip frame and nickel finish for durability and aesthetics. Frame sizes ranged from small to extra-large, with corresponding barrel options such as a 2 7/16-inch octagonal barrel for extra-large frames.
