The Winchester Model 55 Rifle, produced between 1924 and 1932, exemplifies early 20th-century American firearms engineering. A lever-action rifle available in .25-35 WCF, .30-30 Win., and .32 Win. Spl., it was designed in both solid frame and more common takedown configurations. With a 24-inch rapid taper round barrel and a shotgun-style buttstock with a serrated steel buttplate, it combines functional aesthetics with added stability and comfort. Its tubular magazine holds three cartridges, making it suitable for hunting and target shooting. Approximately 20,500 units were made, initially with an independent serial number range, later integrating with the Winchester Model 1894 numbers. Despite its advanced design, it was overshadowed by the popular Model 1894. A limited number were assembled from leftover parts between 1933 and 1942, enhancing their collectability. The Model 55 reflects Winchester’s innovative spirit and remains a prized piece for vintage firearm collectors.
